Not Meryl Streep, But ...

FRENCHKISSED note: Free downloads are available only during the week they are listed. However, you can find Meryl for sale in my shops:)
... just as pretty! Her name is Meryl. I don't know much about her other than the fact that she was an Edwardian actress at the turn of the century and this postcard of her is tres rare. The only reason I know her name is Meryl is because I peeked under the stamp:) As you can see, the stamp is missing on the scan below. I know, I know. I've been a bad girl. I've stripped away not just the stamp but all its historical ties. But I couldn't help myself. I don't like the bright red stamp with the delicate pink tulle Meryl is wrapped in. And since my ulimate goal was to cut her out, I went ahead and removed the other little printing tidbits, too. So, pick one or take them both:) They are your free downloads for this week! My little poll from last week verifies that even you gals are split about 50/50 in regard to keeping postcard images original or "tweaked." I think much of it depends upon how one is going to use the image, especially if you are using it digitally... At the FrenchKissed Flickr group, you've seen two of my creations with Meryl and you already know that I like her without the sepia background because I have way too much fun putting her in different backgrounds. I even 'flipped' her for the collage above, getting her to look in the other direction. Now, sometime back I posted information about the difference between a JPEG and a PNG. Did you forget that post? Good! Cause I was wrong:) If I'm still wrong, anyone out there please don't hesitate to correct me. But I think I got it right this time. A cutout is a cutout is a cutout. Whether it's the wavy edge of a vintage postcard, the irregular border of a piece of antique ephemera, or an image cutaway from its background like Meryl, once it's cut out, it stays that way and it will print that way. BUT, if you are working with a scan, creating layers digitally in a photo program, you need a PNG cutout. If you have only the JPEG cutout, it will show up with a white background when you drag it over into your new layer and totally ruin your creative endeavors. I have many images available as a PNG and I always make a note of that in my item description. Just make a note to me when you put in an order that you prefer a PNG instead of the JPEG:)

She's a beauty for sure. I like her without the stamp too. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Trishia, for this lovely not-Meryl-Streep! I only wish that I could look as beautiful if I wrapped myself in a few yards of pink tulle, LOL, and I agree - that stamp is too orangey-red to work with the soft pink. And, by the way, it is easy to "erase" the white background in Photoshop but not all images will look as well afterwards. A dark image on white is good and vice-versa, but if you have a light image on white backgrounds, you run the risk of "erasing" some pixels. PNGs are the way to go for easy use of a single element. But I love to cut out bits for myself from here and there, don't you? That's why so many of your cards are so wonderful; there's so much to use!
Now I'm off for some shopping at your place!!
merci, Nancy

I really appreciate your freebies, and your advice. As a newbie to mixed media and altered art I am having fun but struggling to keep up! This helps no end.

Nancy, thank you so much for the correction on tulle. I wrote toile, but you know what I meant:) Merci!

I didn't know all that about PNGs. I rarely use them - and though I rarely do collage work, you never know when I might want to.

Such a beautiful image to play with - thanks Trishia! I'm partial to the postcard stamp version, but I do like how you can extract the image and place her in so many different backgrounds.
