Reclusive reprieve

Mes amies, I had written earlier in the week that today I would share a bit about a special gift shop in Southern France. Well...the more I've thought about it ... I've decided to procrastinate and I'll talk about it next week.
Thanksgiving Day for me was one of those scenarios that movies are made of: pregnant pauses, pumpkin pies with fist punches and even a wedding announcement from a relative ("10 a.m. tomorrow"). Yes, truth is stranger than fiction and I didn't make that up. When political subjects came up and I praised the occupiers ... Oh My....
So it is today that The Hubby and I are nesting in our home with no drama, some video reruns and a few computer games. I could write about the gift shop; it's not that I don't have the time. But ...
Today in America is Black Friday. For my international readers who are not familiar with the Black Friday "tradition," it is (was) the day after Thanksgiving when Americans get to stores at ungodly hours to stand in line to be the first in to get a 'bargain' price on TVs and other such material goods. I say "was" the day after Thanksgiving because many stores in this recession desperation actually started their sales at midnight on Thursday. In my opinion, Black Friday is the quintessential image of what's wrong with American consumerism. People have been killed and injured from trampling, stampeding and fighting to get into the stores.
Black Friday makes me as an entrepreneur feel ... dirty. It's symbolic of much that is wrong with America and so I just want to hibernate. After Thursday's walking on eggs around family -- I feel I owe it to myself to let my soul recuperate and revel in doing nothing. Nothing more strenuous than eating a second helping of the homemade mince meatless pie The Hubby made for me ....
SEE you Monday with a freebie refreshed from my reprieve, I promise!

I sure do not venture out on this day. I don't want anything that badly. I did run to the post office and the streets were kind of empty.
I'm sure it was a fluke.

Enjoy your nesting, I do this all the time. Nest, then nest some more, then even more nesting...you get the picture.

i spent the day relaxing and vegetating!!!
tons of years ago,my mom and i did the after-Thanksgiving sales..3 malls in one day!!! but, that was when there weren't frequent sales like they have now!! i haven't been to a black fri. sale since they started calling it black friday!!!
in answer to your 10 am tomorrow wedding...i was in nursing school..in a physics class..instructor came up and said..your sister called.she's getting married in 2 hrs..you need to go home!! my twin and her 1st husband decided on the spur of the moment to get married in a church on a hill overlooking Malibu..nevermind that wedding plans had been made for a bit down the road, and my mom had already made NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSITS!!..guess what vendors i used when i got married a couple years later. My husband was the best man..and he'd only met the groom once!!
glad you had a good day today!!

I too stay home as a choice on Black Friday. No things are worth the craziness. I kept my appreciation of Occupy Wall Street on the down low during the turkey get together. People can be so misinformed by the media. Especially since it is now down from fifty companies, to just five companies controlling what people ingest.

I had breakfast in bed while I watched the documentary "Blue Gold." Water being the new oil rush in the world...it was interesting to see which companies are buying up water rights. As well as the rich elite that are buying hundreds of thousands of acres in water rich Paraguay and Brazil for future use. Oh and we set up army bases to protect said pieces of land. Cozy.

Wow that must have been some family get together!!! It was must the 3 of us.. me, my husband and our dachsy this year. We were invited to a friends house, but this year we turned them down..we rather liked the quietness of just us. I can't remember the last time I actually shopped on the day after Thanksgiving...if I ever did. In the discussion I saw today on CNN (I think)after all the stampeding, and maceing etc. it turns out that you can usually get those same prices all through the month of Dec. and into Jan. for the big screen tv's etc. It's just hyped up to get lots of people out into the stores... I know these next weeks can make or break a retail store, especially the smaller locally owned ones, but I'll be out and about later!!
Enjoy your day of nesting..as I have enjoyed mine.

You are absolutely right about Black Friday; I think it's terrible. All this mess just to buy THINGS, which don't last anyway. Just give me peace and quiet, family and gentle pursuits, and I am a happy, fulfilled woman.

No black Fridays for me! I went with my DIL one year because she wanted something & whew...it was crazy! It became quite a joke since my hubby & two sons were on the other end of town going to "Man" stores. We kept phoning each other with progress reports! We all decided it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. That was over 10 years ago! I don't understand the crazy people that do the pepper spray & knocking down people, etc. If everyone just boycotted the stores on black Friday, we would have changes.
Blessings,
Cindy
