Were You Daddy's Girl?

FRENCHKISSED update: This digital download is no longer available but you can find it in my Zibbet and Etsy shop:) Yesterday I read an article about feminist Gloria Steinman. Can you tell from my collage that I was influenced by what I read:) I was drawn to this antique French postcard by its "strange" composition. Look closely and you'll see a woman's face peering through the window grill.
I call this image Daddy's Girl. I love the way the "papa" is holding her hand. When I first began 'playing' with my collage, I was going for the fond memories of being Daddy's Girl in a bubble gum, cotton candy world. However, the more I worked on it, I realized that those words didn't truly reflect what's seen in the photo. There's a seriousness there. The more I looked at the man's face, I felt he was more than a doting Daddy. He would want the best for his daughter and just knowing the obstacles she would face (not to mention wearing a corset!) would be enough to cause his ulcer to act up. Yeah, the more I worked on my collage, I realized that wasn't bubble gum or cotton candy pink -- it was Pepto-Bismal pink.
Thanks to the likes of women like Gloria Steinman, a girl's options in life today are not quite as Pepto-DISMAL. The United States still can't claim a woman president, but woman all over the world are forging a better lot in life with more and more rights. I LOVE those stories about artistic women in less industrialized countries who get a $400 loan, start a co-op and eventually are able to support themselves and their families by selling their crafted items worldwide! Hey, wait a minute -- I didn't get a loan, but that's kinda my story too. No wonder I love it!:)
So, OK, here's the ORIGINAL.
And here's the mandatory SEPIA version:
And in case this 100+ year-old photograph looks too "new" for you, here's the EXTRA AGED cheddar cheese version:
Now, I'm not giving you my original collage, but here's a PINK version that you can customize yourself! Don't you just love that pink and sepia mix?!

No doubt it's mom behind that railing, makes for an interesting photo. That's where you'd find me..way in the background preferably behind something, that railing makes good camoflauge. Ha

I like what you did with this postcard and thoroughly enjoyed reading your post about your interpretation of the "pink".

Trishia
Your posts are always full of interest, the way you examine the postcard then form your text.
I cannot decide which is my favourite version, possibly the first as I like the addition of the text.
Glad the card arrived intact - I am sure it was Pony Express, what a length of time for a card to arrive from Scotland!!!
Wishes
Lynne
