WTF?!
That's What the FrenchKissed, uh-huh, yeah:) Excuse me, but I gotta vent. I might regret it later but....
First email of the a.m., a reader says she posted something from my blog onto Pinterest.
OK. I know of Pinterest. I go to check it out.
Find out I have to be invited to join.
I ask to be invited.
I get my second email of the a.m.
"Hi! Thanks for joining the Pinterest waiting list. We'll be sure to send you an invite soon."
IS THIS FOR REAL?!
Am I to understand that there's now a new form of Social Media and it's Social Snobbery Media?
Aaagghhhh!!
OK, OK, I'm trying to calm down. I know there are lots of gimmicks in marketing: create a sense of shortage (ONLY ONE available), create a sense of urgency (OFFER ends in 2 nanoseconds).....
Have I mentioned lately that I hate HATE marketing? I subscribe to a marketing guru and I get an email from her almost every other day. I've just about quit reading beyond the subject headers. I don't care that she made a 6-figure income last year. It's spam. It's annoying. It's aggravating.
Me? If I didn't have my husband, I'd be out on the street testing whether paper or plastic bags keep the feet warmer. I don't care. I want to do business MY way. You understand, dont' you Frank?:)
But creating a sense of snobbery, of elitism, of invitation only??? I find it distasteful to the MAX.
I looked at Pinterest and found lots of things that interested me: the Swarsky (?) crystal stairs of the business on the Champs Elysee; the stiletto shoe with the Eiffel Tower heel).
I see the world as a place with TOO much, TOO much stuff, TOO much information. It's impossible for one human to try to filter through, so we're creating all these 'venues' to help us, to focus on what we like and are interested in. I get that part. I just don't get the "we've put you on our waiting list" approach.
Maybe I'll return to my email and find I've already been accepted. Maybe I'll calm down ....yet I can't help but wonder if first I must admit to a hazing?
Pinterest, you better hurry up -- else I'm gonna lose interest. No time to be a lady in waiting! I'm too old. Too cranky. Too impatient for a snobbery marketing gimmick!

ROFL
Well here is my story.
It caught my eye that people were visiting me from there so I take a look and see that my artwork is there - how did that happen as I am not part of this site? So I click "join" and like you, I wait and wait and then wait another day and then Bingo!! They say, here is your invite but me, being not a very Modern Miss didn't realise I needed to be on Facebook/Twitter so I am in limbo, with an invite but nowhere to go - sounds like the story of my life.
So I had to lol as your story is my story!!!
Not forgotten the scans :)

Send them an email that says: Act now if you want me to be a member. Offer expires soon.
Buttheads!
been there!!!
i'm thinking so many want to join..they just take their time.
i joined..but never go there!..funny,huh!!!
part of me says that i really don't want to be part of any group that will have me..i don't want to be part of the BIG GROUP..never been a follower(except for blogs!!)....
i'm thinking .........do I really need to be part of everything i'm signed up with?
i tweet things that are important for the world..conservation,animal and human rights..but i don't tweet "hi.awake.no plans" or that crap! ..I don't share on facebook that I'm "at in-n-out with ..." I mean REALLY!!!!

You're right. There's too much stuff out there. I don't know much about Pinterest, but then I am out of the loop anyway because I don't do Facebook, Twitter, or anything else like that. I have two blogs, but they are basically for me. Followers are blessings; I like to think that I inspire a few folks here and there. (Here's a thought --- just how social is social media? All it means it that people enter keystrokes. It has nothing to do with real personal interaction. I observed a group of teenagers at a mall a couple of years ago. Every one of them was chatting/tweeting/whatever to someone else on a cell phone. Social? By no stretch of the imagination!) Anyway, back to the matter at hand. If there's a way for you to get your stuff removed from the site, you might feel better. There's just too much information out there and too much time spent trying to get it all!
I asked to join, they said we will send you a password and then you can join.
They never did and I think I'm happy they didn't ----
don't want more stuff to take up my down time.....
I'm with you ALL the way Trishia!

I love your rants...sorry. I've read a number of bloggers who've sung the praises of Pinterest, but never bothered to check it out. Guess that was just as well...I don't Facebook/Twitter either, and wait for an invitation.. I'd totally lose interest. Social network is a bit of an oxymoron isn't it???
Don't have any knowledge of Pinterst - I only saw it for the first time last week through a link on someone's blog. It looked quirky but have enough keeping up with my blog and Facebook - never mind something else.
I'm always interested to see how well things take of though - what will today's craze be replaced by tomorrow? Pinterest? Look at MySpace - huge in it's day, but within a couple of years is already hugely dated!
Social media sites need to be accessible NOW though - so I'm not completely getting the 'invite only' approach - dangerous tactic if you ask me!
x
well before you have a complete melt down the reason as I understand it is that by using facebook and invitation only they are not spammed by computers. If you are on facebook let me know and I will send you an invite so that you will be on pinterest immediately........by caution it is addicting!

I like you. Pin Interest is just another marketing venue. The info is probably sold to companies who taylor products to the same interests and styles. I rarely twitter and I don't link to my facebook account. Guess I'm out of the "loop".
I have not joined pintrest on purpose because I know that I would waste too much time looking at more stuff instead of working on things I have already started. My list of projects I want to do is already long enough. It is enough for me to just look at what bloggers have posted on their boards that are linked to their blog.
Same thing here.. It took them 3 days. I'm sure it's about "checking" you out? Who knows. I was "accepted" today, and I did the FB thing, as I am on it. I am going to take myself off right after this post.
YOU and your business is so amazing, they should be tickled pink to have you there!
A bunch of social media snobs, for sure. I don't want to be associated with them. No way.
Thanks so much for the post!
Have a great day..
Hugs,

snicker:) Oh Trishia I do love your rants! I will give full disclosure, I am on Pinterest. I do have an 'account' with them and (as you know) I am on Facebook. Believe me, none of that is a ploy to overt hackers or scams or computer viruses. I had over 500 emails from Pinterest all because of a shoe picture. The picture was mine, of a journal page I had made, and received a 'note' from someone about a shoe....well from there were days of the same emails from I believe every Pinterest member. It was the same email, over and over with the names different. I spent days throwing it back, each one as 'spam' until finally it wore them out sending! But here's my real point. I never take pictures from people's blogs and/or sites. I will post my own from my own blog, as I know others are already taking them around my security features. But I am uncomfortable with the aspects of copyright seeming to be completely over looked with Pinterest. They can't be held responsible, as it is their members that are choosing the photo's. So they are off the hook on that legally. But the individuals are suppose to look for any copyright information on any site that they're posting pictures from. I don't think anyone does, as I see tons of art, and such that is posted, but once it's posted once, it's open game to everyone on Pinterest, and it goes viral. I only post pictures from other members boards, so as not to invade anyones website or blog. I see my work all over Pinterest, and I have security setting that are suppose to stop them from taking. So I decided last November to heck with it all. I now post all my stuff, (not others), not only on Pinterest, but Facebook and my blog as well. I'll flood it all with my work, and see what happens! I will tell you Trishia, I see all the time Etsy shop 'pins' on Pinterest, from sites wanting to 'sell' their copyright images, as in your case, posted for all to see, upload to their computers and print away. I see lawsuits at some point in their future. But until then, it's a lot of eye candy on subjects of interest at 3 a.m. when every Facebook 'friend' is asleep:) LOL. It's a mess out there, no one seems to be responsible, or take responsibility, yet once lawyers get into it, all hell will break loose! Remember the music downloading issue years ago, and the members were held responsible for the downloading of the music? I see that happening at some point. Then you can laugh in their general direction and spit on them! LOL xoxo
I do love your rants and wish I could rant as well as you do! :) I am on pinterest and never "attend". Too much else to keep me busy.
I thought I might like to "pin" however it seems unless you have a facebook or twitter account you cannot sign up even if you do get invited!
I refuse to join the other 2 so now I forgo the "pin" too!
This blog is great source of information which is very useful for me. Thank you very much.
