Can You Say Salazare?

Month of Daily Downloads No. 7
The original postcard is below but I actually prefer my dark frame treatment....
I picked this Paris card cause I love the seafoam green in the Mansard roof. That shade of green is so soothing. Another reason I like this image is because it reminds me of an 'aha' moment I had in Paris: I realized that when the Frenchman kept saying Salazare, he was referring to the Saint Lazare train station. Just as we run our speech together (whatcha doing?) so do other folks. So, in French, the Saint has no 't' and is pronounced more like 'son.' But when  paired with Lazare, it becomes Salazare. So I was Miss LaDeDa walking the streets of Paris heading for Salazare when all those American tourists were lost looking for some saint:) Such moments of passing myself off as a French person are priceless!ha! Same thing when I went to Rouen and learned that Joan of Arc, known as Jeanne d'Arc in France, is pronounced John Dar with a soft J. Along with passing myself off as a Francophone, I can draw (or is that 'drawl') on my 30 years of living in Texas, throw in a few y'alls and I reckon and pass myself off as being tri-lingual: speaking French, English and Texan:)

thank you for putting up with what passes for  my humor. and merci BEAUCOUP for all your prayers and well wishes in regard to my nephew. my brother and I are in  a heart-rending limbo....just waiting and hoping that the next call from the police will not be dire news.
the last call i had was from a policeman at portland international airport. my nephew refused to talk to me and it made me so angry and so hurt ... the officer said: he's doing fine. he's eating a sandwich. i don't see that he's in any imminent  danger to himself or others. there's nothing i can do to hold him. that was on thursday and since then he has gone through $600 cash.
we had reason to believe that he was going to get on a bus and go to texas to see his mother. but 4 days later, imagine my surprise when i checked his bank account and saw he had made 5 little purchases at a chevron gas station in Gresham, a Portland suburb. the manager at the station checked her security film and pinpointed his purchases at 2:45 in the morning!
did i mention  he is on crutches?! during the ice storm, a few days after i fell and broke my arm, he fell and injured his hip....how he has been managing living on the streets, i don't know. our only hope is that when he taps out the last of his money from his bank account, that then he will be willing to talk to us again....since he speaks coherently and doesn't talk about smiling demons to the police officers like he did to me, they say he is 'fine.' he is not breaking any laws.......our society is RE-active, not PRO-active and that's a sad thing.

As I mentioned before, there's much I want to share with you --- in the midst of this personal family  turmoil, I have had some wonderfully encouraging, inspiring artful connections from around the world. Alas, my arm limits how much I can accomplish in a day. But I promise, I'll get caught up! It may take awhile. Fortunately, there's no expiration on all these good things to pass on to you:) But one thing I don't want to wait on any longer is this: I just gotta give a shout out to Connie, the Wax Beach Artist. Connie has some physical challenges that make my broken arm seem like a hang nail. Due to neurological damage sustained in a car accident, everything she experiences is EXTREME. She explains how her body perceives any outside stimulus in this post but she's not letting this medical condition stop her dreams. Her life is like her art: altered. So instead of having a brick and mortar shop as she dreamed about, she recently took the plunge and opened an online store on Etsy called Vintage Sea. Check out her blog. Visit her store. You're gonna like it! Along with the sea influences, you'll find touches of Paris!!

Prayers for your family. Life is not easy, for sure. I have snagged this image -- and I like yours with the black edge the best as well. Thank you!

Sad to hear about your nephew. Unfortunately mental ilnesses aren't viewable from the outside. Or is it fortunately? It probably depends on what kind it is.
I hope you will all be allright.

And thanks for the image - I used the Lacey lady on a card yesterday/today, my first real digital image card, and I like the result :)

I love the seafoam green also. I especially love the way you altered this postcard..little touches...

I am (not) amazed that the police, etc will not intervene on your behalf, but am happy to know that all are keeping in touch and searching him out on security cameras...But how much easier it would be for all concerned if they would just hold him until someone got there to bring him home.

It must be very frustrating for you all.

It's a beautiful freebie, Trishia, and I thank you. The darker frame works so well; your instincts were right. Regarding your brother, I've lifted him up in prayer, fully expecting him to be healed and delivered. Oh, and I know Connie (Wax Beach Artist) through her blog. She's amazing!

I like your version best too. I agree with the last comment, that it's to bad that someone can't hold him till family gets there. But because he's of legal age and the laws that won't allow him to be held against his will for "no good reason" make that impossible.
I'm sure laws get passed for good reasons for a particular situation that causes many problems for other situations like yours. It's to bad that he'll most likely run through all of his money before he gets home, causing financial problems for his family to make up what was lost to pay his bills. This is just such a sad story on the state of mental health care in this country.

First of all, sorry about the situation with your nephew. I know when the problems are involving family is never an easy thing to handle. I hope that things will work out fine eventually and that your nephew can get better.

Thanks so much for your encouraging words on my blog. I love your blog too. Seems we have similar interest with French and Parisian. I'll try to browse more of your blog. XOXO

Awww, your nephew and the situation is such a reflection of today and "just the way things are"...... I went through a little of this with my dad. Hang in there, something will happen to make it get better.....
Love your image today and I did visit the Vintage Sea etsy shop, adorable, and bless her for getting on with it despite her handicap!

“Miss Ladeda”... love that image of you!
I remember trying to fit into the scene when I was in Italy, as if they couldn’t tell immediately I was from the U.S., haha!
I really do hope your nephew will not come to any harm.
And thank you for today’s card; your version is fabulous!!

Again, you did a great job with this image. You really have a great eye.

As for your nephew, I am not the slightest bit surprised by the police response. I have seen this before.

Oh Trishia,

THIS is a great image. Love it... it's so HUGO looking. By the way, my friend's BEST FRIEND growing up, wrote and illustrated HUGO. She just told me, small world indeed.

I wish you strength with your familial situation. Life can be so tough. Hang in there.

Thank you for continuing to spread beauty throughout the land....

Sincerely,
Lili

Sorry about the incredibly frustrating situation with your nephew. I can understand somewhat where you are coming from, as we have been dealing with a relative who is also mentally ill.

No one would/could/did help until someone else got hurt, that despite several calls to the police and mental health services (not just by family). That's just wrong!

The last morning before the incident one of his neighbors called Mental Health I believe it ended up being 3 times as it was apparent he was acting more and more bizarrely and not like himself!

I'll be thinking about you, and hoping your nephew gets the help he truly deserves before a tragedy happens. Mental Health affects not just the person themselves, but everyone who cares about the person affected. Shame on the fact that Mental Health still has such a stigma attached to it! The families who so desperately need the help and want to help their loved one are told, "sorry we can't do anything."

I love today's image, and also prefer your version best. I haven't gotten to make anything with it yet, but hope to soon.
