Marie's on the Move

Month of Daily Downloads No. 10

Those of you who know me are familiar with my moaning about my lack of organizational skills. In my search for Paris street scenes, it dawned on me that I should look in my "already listed" files. You know, maybe what I'm looking for is right in front of me!:) I have almost 1,000 photos listed in Zibbet. Even I haven't seen some of those listings since initially imported from Etsy  in November 2010! And the transfer process didn't include expired listings. Hence, certain postcard scans could get "lost." Well, look at what I "found"! But hold your horses. Don't make your reservations just yet. You see, Hotel St. Marie has moved. On the back of my postcard, the address is 83 rue de Rivoli, one of the most famous streets in Paris. But if you go there today, here's what you'll see: (Google you never cease to amaze me!)
I learned that Hotel St. Marie moved a couple of kilometers down the road, not too far from Place de la Republic, where we were yesterday.
The revues on Trip Advisor don't sell me on the place, especially for 70 euros a night. And the repeated use of the word "hate" in the review titles also dissuade me! However, let's go back to the turn of the century and imagine our Marie in all her glorious splender!

Now totally changing the subject, I have to show you something. I think I impressed myself. Look at the before and after treatment of this sculpture postcard by the Italian sculptor Mastroianni:

Just goes to show what a little paint, powder and Pixlr can do!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have an order for some scans from Japan...

Oh,wait a minute. Speaking of Japan, have you heard of washi tape? When visiting Debbie in the Netherlands on her blog Daqadoodles, she shared a link about decorating with washi tape, which took me somewhere else -- I don't know -- but among the links in that link I met Di', an Indonesian mother of three who lives here in the US in Connecticut. On her blog Emaurian, Di gives a supply list, instructions and photos on how to make some great cards/collages/ATC using washi tape! While you are there, check out her superb photography (birds!), drawings and other crafts.

Haha watch out with following links, before you know it you discover another wonderfull corner of the internet that you want to see, blogs to read...And eventually you get lost. (How did I get here?)
Anyway, it's fun to see how these things go :)
I'm making a second card with the Lacey Lady, started yesterday but my baby was a bit ill. Today he was crying a lot at home (at the crea-event I was he was ofcourse very sweet), I think it's because of his teeth, we had a hard time calming him and getting him to sleep. The poor boy was so very tired! So I haven't had a chance to finish the card yet, it will be a busy weekend so I'll have to keep you waiting!

Oh and I love your treatment of the card of the sculpture! It's so lively.

Thanks again for the freebie, and goodnight - I'm going to need my sleep...

What a wonderful scene -- thank you! I loved your commentary on the postcard, too (the fact that the hotel has moved). I would never have thought to check!

What did we do before the Great Google invention?
It’s so much fun to see photos of how places were and then find them on google.

Your Pixlr treatment looks great!

I thought it was about time to thank you and let you know what my plans were for your generous scans. My friends and I always have an island retreat and I plan a themed tea. This year is An Evening in Paris. I was thinking of printing a few scans (either tags or postcards) in a pkt. as party favors for each of the 7 guests. I am also going to use the French word a day that I discovered on you sidebar before we leave in August. Thank you for your help. This year's tea will be the best! (as long as I get my printer fixed - :)
