My Heavy Heart Is Racing!

Posted on Etsy Forum here at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday, May 2
The recent closing of my shop -- no notice, no warning -- has made me realize that we as sellers have no rights.

Instead of feeling like I'm treated as a shop OWNER in my relationship with Etsy, I believe I'm more like a shop SQUATTER who can be evicted, closed, shut down at any moment.

I am requesting that a 'due process' be established BEFORE a shop is closed.
I believe it is most reasonable in a community which CEO Chad Dickerson refers to as being built on transparency, kindness and respect, to request that
BEFORE any shop can be shut down, we should be guaranteed that:

An email notification will be sent stating
1) what the infraction is
2) how it can be fixed
AND most importantly
3) a DEADLINE given as to when these infractions must be corrected
4) with the understanding that "your shop can be closed if this is not done" clearly communicated
5) and a request clearly stated to RESPOND to said email within 24 hours.

IF NO reply is received from the shop owner within 24 hours,
a SECOND email will be sent [???] days later (After all, life happens. We could actually be away from the computer, in the hospital, without internet service due to power outage for 3 days, having a baby, etc)

IF still no response, finally, a THIRD email should be sent, again clearly communicating a DEADLINE: Your shop will be closed in X amount of days.

The emphasis is on the future tense "will be closed."
A warning.
A notice.
Three strikes and then you're out.
Is that asking too much?

IF anyone adds a comment in the Etsy forum to my post (if it's not shut down and/or deleted by Etsy administration), please remember to be civil, polite and all that crap:) I believe there is a time and place for informal language. Hence, on my original blog post at the very end I called them jerks. This is MY blog, after all. But in "public" a certain amount of civility and tongue-biting are necessary. WE cannot reduce ourselves to the standards of American politicians:)

SO, Ok, I came out and posted this on the Etsy forum, fingers crossed that my shop is not closed down.
I'm going to go list my new prized pieces of ephemera, tickets to get into the Paris Expos in 1889 and 1900. I'm going to work on some more scans ... and hopefully my heavy heart will lighten up. I guarantee you, my chest is a little tight with anxiety:)

In the meantime, don't forget to VOTE for the first place winner in the KISSED AGAIN! contest. Link at top of this page. AND if you haven't entered the Love Me TWO challenge, get thee creative groove on and do so NOW:) Details at right top column.....deadline changed to May 15!!

WELL, my thread lasted for 5 pages and then Administration came on board, wrote what you see below and then CLOSED the thread:

Hello,

Sorry for the troubles! There is a process for shops undergoing review with opportunities for open communication directed at resolving any discrepancies and/or issues. Communication from Etsy is sent via email, several attempts are made to contact the shop owner.

Unfortunately we can not discuss individual shops or transactions in the Forums, it's against policy. If you have a concern about your shop you can contact support@etsy.com and they will help you.

Here are a few useful links:

How to list items: www.etsy.com/help/article/483#listings

Terms of Use: www.etsy.com/policy/terms

DOs and DON'Ts: www.etsy.com/policy/dosdonts

Check out the Do's and Don'ts of what to post in the forums:www.etsy.com/help/article/483#community_forums

Cheers!
There is a process for shops undergoing review . I wasn't writing about shops undergoing review. I was writing about shops being closed without notice. Just like the thread post!

Let's hope this will do some good and plenty of shop owners will stand behind your request. It's polite, respectful and to the point. I think you put it very well. (I have not at this point checked to see if your: #1, shop is still there, or #2, if your posting is still there!) Now take a good deep breath and relax.

well you're certainly giving it your all, but how frustrating. Wish it was easier for you - you have such a unique and beautiful product to sell. When I worked for the State I used to dream of being self-employed and once I became self-employed that dream wasn't all I thought it'd be.

Can't comment on your Facebook so I'll have to do it here. Re: your latest post and download...I actually know what you meant by a Luddite society!!!! Don't think that is goig to happen.. not sure we'd like it to.

This is so typical of an Etsy repsonse. I've been at Etsy for 6 years and seen this kind of no response responseit time and again when someonw has respectfully made reasonable requests in the forums. I haven't even been on the forum in a couple years because I got tired of all the crap. And I'm not talking just sellers or buyers but admin. Etsy is just as bad as ebay when it comes to it's treatment of sellers. I know how hard you work as we all do to promote ourselves...why don't you just get your own shop Trisha. At least you know YOU have integrity and honesty. :) ♥♥ Hang in there mon ami.

Oh Trisha,
I am so sorry to hear you are having this trouble. This is very scary that they can pull the rug out form underneath us sellers after all of our hard work and with no explanations. Hope you can get it all straightened out, 'cause I love your shop!!!
